Fire doors play an important role in reducing the risk in most buildings. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order 2005) states fire doors are a legal requirement in all non-domestic properties, including businesses, commercial premises and public buildings needing to be inspected every 6 months.
Due to the unfortunate events of The Grenfell Tower fire in 2017 the legislation has changed in some of the domestic rules. The Fire Safety Act 2021 ensures that fire doors in blocks of flats are given greater priority by landlords and local authorities. From January 2023 it will become law that all buildings over 11 meters high are to have quarterly inspections carried out on all fire doors in any multiple occupancy residential buildings.
